...it's not dark yet, but it's gettin' there...
Eh, no desire to go to those third world shitholes anyway. Yes, that includes Louisiana.
Posted by: Casca on Jan. 23, 2007I used to worry about the Killer Bees when I was a kid. Now they're in our county and life is still the same. I'm not going to mention this to our 16-year-old daughter, who recently overcame her fear of the Chupacabra.
Posted by: Joules on Jan. 23, 2007hey, chupa tu cabra!

LMAO, even though that's MY third world shithole you're talking about.
Posted by: reagan80 on Jan. 23, 2007"Some experts estimate the number of people in Latin American countries who have this disease to be 25%. About 25% of these will suffer heart damage. So .o6% of the population suffers heart damage from this one bug."
Eh. Dude. 25% of 25% is not .06%. It's roughly 6%. The guy apparently isn't a math professor.
Six cases ever reported in the U.S. I'll hold off on panicking. Like Joules, I used to worry about killer bees. Used to worry about fire ants, too. Then I lived in places where they're endemic. No big danger except to kids. Gasoline (plus a match) deals with fire ant mounds nicely. They also make reasonably effective poisons, but it's more gratifying -- and more effective, I think -- to burn the little fuckers out.

While the condition doesn't sound pleasant, the CDC information is much less alarmist.
Posted by: The Maximum Leader on Jan. 23, 2007You think that's bad? THIS shit is scary: Nasty Shit! Long article, but the last page is the best.
Eh. Dude. 25% of 25% is not .06%. It's roughly 6%. The guy apparently isn't a math professor.
Eh. Dude! It seems you aren't a math professor either. Both notations can be correct.
Posted by: Math Prof. on Jan. 23, 2007I have to agree with Matt. .06% is not the same as 6%, although I see where the mistake was made. .06% is six hundredths of one percent.
Posted by: annika on Jan. 23, 2007Actually 25% of 25% is exactly 6.25%. Sorry to be a math geek about it...
(.25X.25=.0625 or 6.25%)
Posted by: Billy on Jan. 23, 2007Your baiting technique sucks, 88.
Posted by: reagan80 on Jan. 24, 2007Whoa Nellie! Thanks Annie, my pals and I were planning a trip to South America for fishing. No way Jose now!
I'm thinking Iceland might work. You know anything bad that ever happened to folks in Iceland? Let me know.
Over and out,
